Rural and Food & Wine Tourism

 Back

Bordered by three rivers, two of which (the Po and the Adda) have considerable tourist potential, the Lodigiano is the ideal place for relaxing one-day trips in touch with nature.

The area has also exploited its waters to become an agricultural stronghold.

Here, a thousand years ago, Benedictine monks developed an extraordinary irrigation system, still existing today, that made the fortune of local agriculture. Intensive farming is practiced here, characterized by a high level of entrepreneurship and the biggest average business size in Europe.

In the Lodigiano, some of Europe’s most advanced farms operate in a context of architecturally fine old farmsteads.

Traditional local products such as cheeses, rice and cured meats are promoted by the long-established Gastronomic Show, an event that involves thirty or so Lodigiano restaurants and attracts about 30 thousand people in search of gastronomic delights.
